Belts and tensioners drive everything that matters
One serpentine belt turns the alternator, the water pump, the air compressor, the fan and the power steering pump. When it fails you lose charging, cooling and often air pressure at the same moment, which turns a two dollar part into a tow and a lost day. Belts wear two ways: mechanically from the pulleys, and chemically from heat and age, so a belt with plenty of rib left can still be brittle and glazed.
Tensioners and idlers matter as much as the belt. Their bearings are sealed and cannot be greased, so they wear until they wobble, chirp or seize. We check tensioner travel and bearing play rather than only looking at the belt itself.
Hoses, clamps and the whole filter set
Coolant hoses, air lines and charge air piping all live under constant pressure and heat cycling, and they fail from the inside where inspection cannot see. We look for softening, swelling, chafe points and weeping clamps, and replace before failure when the evidence is there.
Filters are the other half of the job: oil, fuel, water separator, air and coolant filters where fitted. A restricted air filter costs fuel and turbo life; a neglected fuel filter starves injection. None of it is dramatic work, and all of it prevents drama.

Questions we hear
Straight answers
How do I know a belt needs replacing if it looks fine?
Glazing, hardness, hairline cracks between the ribs and a chirp at cold start all indicate age even when the belt looks intact. On a working truck, replacing a suspect belt on schedule beats replacing it on an interstate shoulder.
What happens if a serpentine belt lets go on the road?
You lose charging, coolant circulation and usually air compressor drive simultaneously. That means a hot engine, a dying electrical system and falling air pressure, all at once. It is one of the least expensive parts on the truck and one of the worst to lose.
Do you check filters at every service?
Yes, and we tell you which ones are actually due rather than replacing everything on principle. Restriction and hours in service decide it.
