Regen System Diagnosis & Repair
A truck that keeps asking for regens is telling you something. We perform forced regens, then find out why the system could not complete one on its own, because the regen is the symptom, not the problem.
Truck & Fleet
More than pressing the regen button
Any shop with a scan tool can command a forced regen. The value is in what happens next: reading soot load data, checking differential pressure sensors, exhaust temperature sensors, the EGR system, injectors and turbo boost, and identifying why passive and active regens stopped completing. Skip that step and the truck comes back in two weeks with the same lamp.
Jacksonville duty cycles make this worse. Port drayage, city delivery and stop-and-go routes rarely give the exhaust enough sustained heat for passive regeneration, so aftertreatment systems here work harder than the highway average.

Out of derate and back to work
When soot load climbs past its limits the engine derates, and a derated truck is not earning. We prioritize derate cases, confirm whether a forced regen or a DPF cleaning is the right call, and repair the root cause so the cycle does not repeat.
Common regen repairs
Regen Systems: scope of work
- Forced regeneration with full aftertreatment data review
- Differential pressure and EGT sensor replacement
- EGR valve and cooler service
- DOC and DPF condition evaluation
- Doser and injector issues affecting regen
- SCR, DEF quality and NOx sensor faults
Questions we hear
Straight answers
My truck is in derate. How fast can you see it?
Call us at (904) 683-6707 and tell us it is a derate. These cases move to the front of the diagnostic queue because we know the truck is not earning while it waits.
Why does my truck need so many regens?
Short routes, idling and low-speed duty cycles never build enough exhaust heat for passive regen, so the system leans on active regens. If frequency suddenly increases, a sensor, EGR or injector problem is usually pushing soot production up, and that is what we diagnose.
Is a forced regen bad for the engine?
No, it is a designed service function. But repeated forced regens without fixing the underlying cause shortens DPF life and wastes fuel, which is why we always look for the reason the system fell behind.
