Why regens stop working
Regeneration burns soot, but the incombustible ash left behind from engine oil stays in the filter and slowly steals its capacity. As ash packs the cells, regens come closer together, fuel economy drops and eventually the truck derates. That trajectory ends in one of two places: a cleaned filter or an expensive new one.
Thermal cleaning bakes the filter to loosen accumulated ash, then removes it from the cells and verifies flow. Done on schedule, it restores capacity and pushes filter replacement years down the road.

Measured, not guessed
We evaluate the filter before cleaning, check for cracked substrates and melted cells that make cleaning pointless, and measure flow after cleaning so you can see the difference. If a filter is damaged beyond saving, we tell you before you spend money cleaning it.

Every one of these figures is published against a duty cycle, and yours is the thing that moves it. Stop-and-go drayage, heavy PTO work, high idle time and any oil consumption problem all load a filter with ash faster than the book assumes, sometimes by half. Your engine's own service manual is the authority; treat rising regen frequency as the real signal, because a filter tells you it is loading before a mileage figure does.
Typical 2 day turnaround on all scheduled DPF services. Booking the clean before the truck derates is what keeps it to two days: an emergency clean competes with whatever is already on the bench.

Straight answers
How often should a DPF be cleaned?
It depends on duty cycle and oil consumption, but many manufacturers suggest evaluation in the low hundreds of thousands of miles, sooner for stop-and-go work. Increasing regen frequency is the practical signal that ash load is building.
Is cleaning really cheaper than replacing?
Substantially. A new OEM filter is one of the most expensive single parts on the exhaust side of a modern diesel. Cleaning restores a healthy filter for a fraction of that, which is why we always evaluate before quoting a replacement.
Can you fix what caused the filter to clog?
Yes, and we recommend it. Oil consumption, injector and EGR problems, and weak regens all load filters early. We diagnose the cause in the same visit so the cleaned filter lasts.
